How does a collection of bee-coins begin ?  Well, I was already collecting coins from the time of my 14th birthday in 1972.  In 1991 I began beekeeping after a bee-swarm arrived in my garden.

In February 1992 I saw a coin with a bee depicted on it in a dealer's junk-box at a Coin Fair. I bought it for a half dollar and so my collection began.   In the beginning I thought that my collection would soon be complete, but now I know that it will never be finished.  I already know more than 2.000 different coins, medals and tokens with bees or beehives shown on them.

The bee has been used many times as symbol and for different reasons.

In the Renaissance the bees are mostly depicted on coins as aggressors.  (For more information click on Renaissance).

On the college, or school prize medals the bees symbolise the industry of the hard workers.   (For more information click on the button for school-medals)

In the bank and Insurance medals the beehive is symbolic of industry and thrift  For more information click on Bank and Insurance.
